Ok, To Hackney Marsh.....
"To the Mattresses " surely I am not the only one who grew up memorising and remembering lines from the Don chi chi of all movies, The God father!!!!Long live Mario Puzo, Long live the god father .
What in the flying monkeys am I talking about? What is all of this Mumbo jumbo my friends? I will tell you ( before you fall asleep) it means to go to war. Yes you read right, war...
Why am I suddenly in this mood when only hours ago I wrote the prior epistle on how happy I am just lustily lusting after all of Marco De Vincentnzo's colourful creations.
What can I say, I am fickle, may have botherline personality issues but trust me I have reason .
So to cut the long story short , I have just had feed back from daddy's parent teacher meeting for our three year old and I am cross ...yeah yeah another over ambitious mom I hear you say, not at all.
Shall I say that in a subject only familiar to people in early years learning , which assesses a child's social skills, via sharing activities engaged with family at home, sports, outings, etc it appears my Tata is meeting expectations!!!!!! What does this even mean?
"Meeting expectations " ? Is that for all or for girls? I don't think we will ever shatter those glass ceilings by just meeting expectations.
No my friends we have to do better, we have to be better than the boys, better than the girls , just better.
I can't imagine Hilary or Michele ever met expectations in social interactions no , surely not and yet we are still First Ladies FFS (For Flora's sake 🙄 what did you think ??..)
That said, it means I have to generate these activities so my Tata can actually have something to talk about, so her assessment is actually mine .
Mine because as I drag myself home Friday night swearing about late admissions and being incredibly tireeeed and having exactly fifteen minutes for each babe before bed time, you can imagine what my Tata has to talk about at nursery....
So today I will be dragging myself out of bed , aching joints and all , wrapping up , wellington boots in situ and marching off to somewhere with muddy puddles and animals, as my Tata must out talk those boys in her class come this Monday !!!
On a slightly more happier note , the post man has been and delivered my recent auction wins, I am obsessed with vintage kitchenelia, so enjoy my recent loot while I march off to the mattresses!!!!!
If you want to know, first from top right; pastry cutters, meat press, pie funnel and jelly mould.
So my friends to Tilly out talking all those boys come this Monday , and seriously , to encouraging our daughters to be everything they can be and more..
Oh dear oh dear me, as I write this, it's day 3 of our holiday and already time to share my newly acquired wisdom....While praying that our rooms are sufficiently sound proofed (at least enough to prevent a Swiss government issued ASBO.....)
I wonder what the mid term means to you my pals;
# phew the roads are finally clear
# Finally some off street parking for me
# Finally some peace from "the bloody neighbour and her 10 children
# Oh dear I hope the nanny doesn't quit this time !!!
# Oh sugar I might need more Red wine
# Summer camp, football camp , camp camp camp... I am lost!!!
# Q buster or no Q buster??? Damn not another theme park
For me it is most of above points and a lot more, location location location and loads more.
Basics done , as in passport, tickets, money etc what do you look for when choosing accommodation?
# Family friendly ??
# Number of stars ??
In my own case I have long figured out that 5 stars actually means ;
Excellent service, fantastic standard, beautiful environment, awesome dining experience, ambiance and sexy people....
My oh my, can you imagine me and my crew in this setting??? One screaming banshee, one skidding across a perfectly polished floor ..as you do, 10 year old totally irritating 11year old and me with my back pack shoulder pack , fanny pack you name it at the reception trying to check in and then suffering a timely heart attack when i am informed of the cost of my stay at "today's exchange rate..."(even without this I would still have one as I couldn't possibly afford a stay in a 5star hotel with my Battalion ) 😂😂😂😂
We have worked it out, to have a less stressful time without facing additional stress from disapproving stares and polite advice from staff and poor guests, as if the kids weren't doing a good enough job , we must find slightly more shabby, accommodating hotels, Air BnB or Hell BnB as I like to describe it ... never, dishes and cooking on holiday!!! Who's the joke on ????
Breakfast must be included and late check out available !!!!
with a swimming pool( as hydrotherapy my friends is awesome in the absence of alcohol)
Play area, colouring pencils, paper and toys at reception .
Good feed back from parents on hotels website, excellent feedback from young business type hmmm a big no no..
Hence my friends, my guide to attempting a survival during the school break this October would include the following;
# Avoid a visit from "Mother nature " to avoid turning into Cruella D'Vile, why else 🤔🤔😉
# A language app but first ensure I can use my data free abroad, and even preferably look at this app, learn basic hello and please before trip !!!!!
# must take own tea !!!!!
# light travel packed lunch /picnic/ M&S meal deal from departure lounge to ensure people have food before I figure out restaurants etc
# Healthy treats.. we like yoyo's
# First Aid kit with Paracetamol/ ibuprofen/Imodium etc( refused to pay equivalent of £5 for paracetamol in Brussels once, shocking!!!)
# Realy dark sunglasses; no eye contact allowed while ignoring tantrums or with any other travelers or locals come to think of it...
# The Zone( you have to be in the zone for the trip!!!)
# bits for entertaining etc
# Itinerary, plan A/B/C... likely to forget all anyway
Essential above all , a must have, is a spirit of adventure, as no matter what I plan, I will do what I've done this time , which is...
Overpack..hence need for back and fanny pack, forget a few bits..shoes , tooth brush, iPad 😱😱😱, damn the plan/ itenary, read the useless weather forecast , over dress the kids resulting in super cranky kids...
Today we damned it all grabbed our raincoats, walking shoes, left the map and went exploring using our senses and guess whattttttttt we enjoyed it 🤓
So, to surviving this mid term break, getting to know Zurich , old memories and new ones, my friends , a glass of Wine on me😜
Lunch time already!!!!!!!
Surely I am not the only one who gets caught off guard (what does this even mean...off guard ?) sometime around 10:30😉 more like 12:00 if you get my drift, with no plan for lunch and now out of tricks and ways of stretching the good old bolognese ...on jacket potatoes ...rice(chili)...spaghetti...toast....plantain.......in between lasagna sheets.....stuffed.. into pasta shells 🐚, in little bags of pasta ....broth with root vegetables......have I left anything under the sun out ????
By now you've guessed it , we exist on giant pots of bolognese.
Today however is different as with no mince in site I've had to prepare our other favourite thing....PIZZA yup what did you think ? Orange glazed duck breast with quail eggs and shredded lemon grass infused carviar 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔no.
As a busy mum I can not imagine life without my bread maker or should I say my husband can not, as he is the bread .. dough man of the house and after many centuries of moaning about wanting a cheats way out of bread making, shall I say santa finallllllly brought me one and yes we are happy.
So back to lunch;
Today Tilly and I have enjoyed making pizza from left over dough which stores well refrigerated or frozen, which she thoroughly enjoyed as whats more fun than knocking every element of air out of your 😉😉😉😉😉😉dough, making dough figures, coming up with toppings and finally the fun bit, eating... nothing !!!!!! as I've long figured out, everything tastes fab with melted cheese, if you are lucky to have some fresh herbs, imagine the yum taste of fresh tomatoes basil and good motzarrela with a splash of olive oil straight out of your oven ....
The fantastic thing about your home made pizza is that as long as you have dough and cheese you can come up with anything you like and it's always original and the kids love it. May not be a recognisable shape or Of great beauty but you can count on not having any left overs🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓
Thinking about items I cannot live without re meals should I say my pantry essentials, items that ensure my children are fed watered and my sanity semi intact, my life savers.....
