Oh dear oh dear me, as I write this, it's day 3 of our holiday and already time to share my newly acquired wisdom....While praying that our rooms are sufficiently sound proofed (at least enough to prevent a Swiss government issued ASBO.....)
I wonder what the mid term means to you my pals;
# phew the roads are finally clear
# Finally some off street parking for me
# Finally some peace from "the bloody neighbour and her 10 children
# Oh dear I hope the nanny doesn't quit this time !!!
# Oh sugar I might need more Red wine
# Summer camp, football camp , camp camp camp... I am lost!!!
# Q buster or no Q buster??? Damn not another theme park
For me it is most of above points and a lot more, location location location and loads more.
Basics done , as in passport, tickets, money etc what do you look for when choosing accommodation?
# Family friendly ??
# Number of stars ??
In my own case I have long figured out that 5 stars actually means ;
Excellent service, fantastic standard, beautiful environment, awesome dining experience, ambiance and sexy people....
My oh my, can you imagine me and my crew in this setting??? One screaming banshee, one skidding across a perfectly polished floor ..as you do, 10 year old totally irritating 11year old and me with my back pack shoulder pack , fanny pack you name it at the reception trying to check in and then suffering a timely heart attack when i am informed of the cost of my stay at "today's exchange rate..."(even without this I would still have one as I couldn't possibly afford a stay in a 5star hotel with my Battalion ) 😂😂😂😂
We have worked it out, to have a less stressful time without facing additional stress from disapproving stares and polite advice from staff and poor guests, as if the kids weren't doing a good enough job , we must find slightly more shabby, accommodating hotels, Air BnB or Hell BnB as I like to describe it ... never, dishes and cooking on holiday!!! Who's the joke on ????
Breakfast must be included and late check out available !!!!
with a swimming pool( as hydrotherapy my friends is awesome in the absence of alcohol)
Play area, colouring pencils, paper and toys at reception .
Good feed back from parents on hotels website, excellent feedback from young business type hmmm a big no no..
Hence my friends, my guide to attempting a survival during the school break this October would include the following;
# Avoid a visit from "Mother nature " to avoid turning into Cruella D'Vile, why else 🤔🤔😉
# A language app but first ensure I can use my data free abroad, and even preferably look at this app, learn basic hello and please before trip !!!!!
# must take own tea !!!!!
# light travel packed lunch /picnic/ M&S meal deal from departure lounge to ensure people have food before I figure out restaurants etc
# Healthy treats.. we like yoyo's
# First Aid kit with Paracetamol/ ibuprofen/Imodium etc( refused to pay equivalent of £5 for paracetamol in Brussels once, shocking!!!)
# Realy dark sunglasses; no eye contact allowed while ignoring tantrums or with any other travelers or locals come to think of it...
# The Zone( you have to be in the zone for the trip!!!)
# bits for entertaining etc
# Itinerary, plan A/B/C... likely to forget all anyway
Essential above all , a must have, is a spirit of adventure, as no matter what I plan, I will do what I've done this time , which is...
Overpack..hence need for back and fanny pack, forget a few bits..shoes , tooth brush, iPad 😱😱😱, damn the plan/ itenary, read the useless weather forecast , over dress the kids resulting in super cranky kids...
Today we damned it all grabbed our raincoats, walking shoes, left the map and went exploring using our senses and guess whattttttttt we enjoyed it 🤓
So, to surviving this mid term break, getting to know Zurich , old memories and new ones, my friends , a glass of Wine on me😜
