What is it about winter months and our need to cover ourselves in rolls of grandiose fabrics, godzillion sequins and layers of foundation.
And on that same note also suddenly need to drink out of goblets and eat off chargers?
I have no idea, interestingly enough, I for one cannot plan a winter wardrobe without the essential velvet this and velvet that. Do I feel royal even in my purple velvet suit ..hmm sadly no, not really, but I can say that I damn well feel good in mine. Very rock and roll chic, Jagger chic!!!!!

When it comes to velvet, one thing is clear, vintage always wins as you will find its heavier cotton based and thus more forgiving if you are endowed with lady lumps etall....
I don't know about you, but Jade Jagger often comes to my mind when imagining how I want to look, as just like her, I am partial to a good trouser suit.
My dream suit would be an Yves saint Laurent Le Smoking Jacket inspired with cigarette pants worn with the barest of lace underneath or none if you dare, heels .. stilettos or even tarsseled loafers or velvet embellished slippers for some bling action.

My other Piece which I consider quite iconic would be the maxi pinafore. Vintage of course, worn with a high neck top and the skinniest of velvet bow on the neck and paired with platforms. This vintage bottle green example from Etsy would do just nicely...for the lucky owner ....
As this might all be in my imagination or on my list of must find or make myself , one might consider a dungaree instead such as the top shop examples below, which I think are quite close to the vintage take described above.

Interestingly enough I've also found these shorts which I think are quite the bees knees , I like the look of them. I ideally would like them with some volume to allow for winter layering as I think dressing them down with a nice oversized Aran knit over layering the softest of Chloesq silk chiffon billowy blouse in the palest of pastels......would be perfect.

Velvet suits and pinny done, I couldn't possibly not mention the iconic draped velvet dress , which I am not particularly partial to , as In view of well earned lumpy bits awarded over the years with each child I am sensible enough to stay away from any suggestion of body con.... but I know when worn well can be quite glam..
For a balance I've included my all time favourite style, as a nod to The Adam family, my Peter Pan , not quite Peter Pan dresses.
